Blackjack Player Moves - Split a Hand
One of the options that players have in blackjack is to split a hand. When certain odds in a game call for one to split a hand then a player is indeed playing smart. Those who know how to take advantage of this move will have the opportunity to get twice as much winnings in one round of play in blackjack.
You are only allowed to split a hand in blackjack if you initially get a pair of cards that have the same equal value. An example would be a pair of Aces on the onset of a hand. This, of course, will be the very first condition that will allow you to split a hand in the game. Another important factor one has to consider before they split a hand in blackjack is the up card the dealer has on the table.
Here are a few rules one should commit to memory in order to know the right time to split a hand in blackjack.
First rule is that if you have a pair of Aces on the onset then you should split your current blackjack hand regardless of what up card the dealer displays on the table.
The next rule is quite similar to the first one we have about splitting hands. If ever you get a pair of eights on the onset of a round in blackjack then you should split that hand regardless of the card that the dealer shows.
Our next rule is that if you have a pair of twos on the onset you will only split that pair if your dealer displays an up card from four to seven.
Next, here's what you do if you have a pair of threes at the onset of a hand. This rule also works as the rule for a pair of twos in blackjack. Split this hand only if your dealer's up card on display is anywhere from four to seven.
If you have a pair of sixes, split this pair only if your dealer has an up card on display from three to six.
If you have a pair of sevens, split this pair only if your dealer has an up card on display that has a value less than eight.
If you have a pair of nines, split this pair only if your dealer has an up card on display as a seven, Ace, or a Ten.
Remember that you should never split your hand if you have a pair of tens, a pair of fives, or a pair of fours.
It may take a bit of time to remember these rules on splitting your hands. However, those who master these rules have the advantage of lowering the house advantage when they play blackjack.
